Dear Halfang

Dear Halfang,

I know this may seem out of the blue, but I wanted to reach out to you. I’ve had a lot on my mind lately and I think it’s about time you received something other than a quick defeat. First things first, my name is Vanessa Mythdust. If that doesn’t ring a bell, I’m the girl in all yellow. Umbra sword. Pet warlord. I always have a moose by my side? I know you get visited by many many many … many … wizards so no hard feelings if you don’t remember me. I mean why would you? It’s not like we stopped to chat. We were engaged in a pretty intense battle right from the second I stepped foot into your cave.

It must be a tricky situation being a ghost and all. You would think that people would leave you alone to rest, but instead I think you have been facing something worse than death. Every day wizards from all over come to YOUR cave to take your precious goods. Most wizards succeed in their mission and prance away happily to go hatch a pet or buy the newest fad. You on the other hand just sit and lay waiting for the next intruder to come knocking on your boulder. But what truly impresses me is that you’ve never backed down from a fight. Despite being beaten more times than you can count (or maybe you do keep a tally?), you still challenge each and every wizard that you see. That is perseverance if I’ve ever seen it. What motivates you? What keeps you going? Other creatures would have just given up by now, but you, no, you’re different. That’s why you’re my hero.

In the bleakest of times, you still stand tall and fight with all your heart. You defend what matters most to you despite the risks. Your success rate may not be very high, but you have more bravery than even some of my fellow classmates. I just thought you should know that. Know that I see beyond your failures and expensive amulets.

I admit I’ve been to your cave more than once or twice to obtain your high value items. I’m sorry, but I was desperate. Derby, my main hobby, is an expensive endeavor that requires vast sums of gold for hatching and snacks. If I wasn’t in a hurry, I would have never thought to bother you.  People always say “the bank of Halfang,” but to me you’re more than a bank. You have feelings just like the rest of us. I do feel bad when me or my friends choose to visit you – I promise that we’re not going for enjoyment. Again, I apologize for all the suffering that I’ve caused.

You deserve happiness, Halfang. I truly hope one day that you’re able to find it. Things must get awfully lonely in that cave of yours, so don’t hesitate to write me if you ever feel like it. I know your bird minions also occupy the space, but from what I’ve heard they’re not exactly the life of the party. Keep being you.

P.S. – How do you never run out of items?
